Hi Bob,

The next message, "DANN TIDBITS" is somewhat a follow up to info which I had sent to you several weeks ago. Tho perhaps more questions than answers. I spent over 31/2 hrs last night on Internet reading old info for Chemung Co + Tioga & Bradford counties in PA.!! Not too productive, however. Was pleased to finally find name of "Ray Barrow" & "Maggie Barrow", but is very puzzling. The Ray in 1880 census only 4 years old so certainly not the man who married Anna Dann. Perhaps Anna's husband was an uncle to this kid? Census shows that Maggie & Ray Barrow as children lived near the Alpheus Dann farm. No Anna or Ray Barrow listed in 1880 census as adults, nor another Barrow family. Appeared that Alpheus' widow still had the farm 15 years after husband's death and son Clayton doing farm work. My guess is that she spent her life on that farm. Anna was deceased by 1883 per other info. But have found no info re her death/burial! Perhaps these 2 Barrow kids were friends of the early Dann family is why Laurance had jotted their names on his material. I asked Delos once and these names meant nothing to him. Now I wonder if it was a granddaughter, not daughter of Alpheus who got the Union township farm and was the wife of Ray Barrow as Lynn Dann told to you? Ray was age 4 in 1880 so either Clayton or Mary could have had a dau to whom an older man was interested in marrying to get the farm!!! As a young man did Fred ever visit Alpheus' widow or any of the Union township relatives?? I don't think my father ever mentioned them and I didn't know my grandmother enough to hear about OLD people, any conversations would have been of interest to a young child!

In message sent Nov 2, 2004, I said: I also have a handwritten page (pretty sure done by Laurance) after he visited the cemetery in Ogdensburg, PA. He wrote, "Margaret Dann 1834-1914 owned a farm at Ogdensburg on the Dann Rd in Town of Union." I'm sure she was Alpheus' widow. There is non-cemetery info on bottom of page including "Ray and Maggie Barrow" but no more info -- relationship to others? Married or died? Or why were those names added to page? Perhaps descendants of Ray & Anna and they lived in Chemung Co?? Puzzle! Mimi had visited Ogdensburg and made photocopy of page from cemetery book which has info you put on website. Nothing on that page about Anna or any Barrow person.

For your thinking pile! dotte

Dotte's comments:
Mary age 16 for this census makes sense. Previous info I have indicates she was born Sept 1864 and still living in 1883 (= age 19), not indicate married in 1883. I don't have date of marriage to Gilbert D. Scudder. Gilbert [D. makes sense, for father] this is 1st I've seen that he was from Union also! Do believe this is same Gilbert as M.'s husband. William below probably is son of Luther, AJ's oldest brother as age/dates match. Found 2 other 1880 DANN families in Union Township but don't seem to match up w/ any of our ancestors. Found not Root family in Canton or anyplace! Marcia Barrow had to be 2nd wife, if ages are correct, and probably mother only of Ray, not of Maggie!! But Wesley too close in age to Margaret Dann to have married her dau!

1880 census for Canton Borough had William age 34, which means born about 1846. Info from Rhoda w/ 1850 census listing Luther's family has a son William age 5. Now wife Ellen age 30 and 13 yr daughter Ann. My latest research.
