Bob and Helen in the kitchen of the old (Erwin) house before it was remodeled. They are drinking coffee (note the cream bottle) but I remember sitting at that table watching Bob shred pieces of bread into his milk glass. He liked bread and milk together, often at the end of a meal.

Grandpa the jokster... This picture was taken in 1959 when he was down to visit us. There was an abandoned field nerby which all of us kids called "the desert" because it had open stretches of sandy soil and the sun was hot without the cover of trees. My brother and I wanted to show the desert to him, and soon he appeared from the garage with this blanket and walking stick.

Bob and Helen on the road to Alaska, 1971

This picture was taken in Canada, on the Alaska highway en route north. My brother Stephen and I were both available in the summer of 1971 to drive them in a camper Bob had bought.

Several years earlier they had started up the Alaska highway themselves, but Helen fell and broke her leg, ending the trip.
